USMTS Coming to town for the LRS Waste Services Southern Minnesota Spring Challenge

The stars of the Summit Racing Equipment United State Modified Touring Series presented by RacinDirt are coming to town for the LRS Waste Services Southern Minnesota Spring Challenge this Saturday, May 24. Let’s rake a look back at some Modified history at Deer Creek.

The first edition we go all the way back to the first two years of the speedway in 1996 and 1997. Before it became the USMTS series when Todd and Janet Staley took over the series, it was the United States Modified Series (U.S.M.S.)
That series made four appearances at Deer Creek. The first of which was held on June 30, 1996. The local drivers claimed the top five that evening. Tim Donlinger of Rochester took the win with Kevin Stoa second and Bob Timm third. Dave Tradup and Mark Noble ran fourth and fifth.

In 1997, there was a two-day USMS show on May 23 and 24. Kelly Shryock took the win on the first night with Brad Waits second and Tommy Myer third. Ron Schreiner and Mike Sorensen would round out the top five.
On night number two, Bob Timm took the win over Ron Schreiner and Kelly Shryock. Wayne Brooks and Tommy Myer were fourth and fifth.

The series returned on July 25th and Rochester’s Todd Klees scored the big check over Oklahoma racer Klint Pursley. Bruce Hanford finished in third, Kelly Shryock was fourth and John Ludemann finished out the top five.
