Motl Gets His First Win Of 2017, Brauer and Jacobs Add Another Win To Their Seasons

By Shanna Motl:  The June 17, 2017 Blake Trucking Slingshot races at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, MN were hot with the weather and the competition! On the pole this week in the Pee Wee class as the 78J of Tucker Jacobs alongside the 7C of Curtis Parmenter on the outside.  The 7C of Parmenter was right on the tail of Jacobs at the start, but it didn’t take long for Jacobs to stretch out his lead and drive a smooth 10 lap feature race all the way to the checkered to add another 1st place trophy to his collection for the 2017 season.  The 7C of Parmenter came in 2nd this week.

The Junior class had the K34 of Kolton Brauer on pole, alongside the 43 of Koby Wagner on the outside, and the 8T of Toby Kennedy started 2nd row inside.   Brauer was immediately on the gas and able to get out front of Wagner, while the 8T of Kennedy looked to challenge Wagner for that second place spot.  Hoping Brauer would falter, Wagner continued to put on the pressure, but instead Brauer managed to stretch out his lead all the way to the checkered flag finishing in 1st place followed by Wagner in 2nd, and Kennedy in 3rd.

Following the redraw in the Senior class, it was the 20 of Gage Motl on pole this week, with the 28jr of Devin Born on the outside, second row inside was the 25 of Joe Chisholm and the 88B of Brady Boland on the outside, third row inside was the 77 of Hunter Kennedy, and the 29 of Lilli Reps on the outside.  Motl and Born were side by side in the first lap with the 28jr of Born taking over the lead after lap 1.  The 77 of Hunter Kennedy had moved up to challenge the 88B of Boland, making his first appearance on the Button Buck this year. The 25 of Chisholm tried to close the gap between him and the 20 of Motl for 2nd place, while the 28jr of Born ran strong out front of the pack.  The 29 of Reps tried to catch the pack after nearly avoiding a spinout in turn 2.  The 28jr of Born gave Reps that chance when he found himself too low coming into turn 3 where he spun around and brought out a caution.  The 20 of Motl took over the lead on the single file restart, but the 25 of Chisholm looked on the low side of Motl hoping to nudge his way in alongside him. While the 29 of Reps challenged the 77 of Kennedy for 3rd,  Born managed to move up a position ahead of the 88B of Boland.  A nail biter finish between Motl and Chisholm ended with Motl remaining out ahead to pick up his
first Senior Slingshot win of the 2017 season followed by the 25 of Chisholm in 2nd, the 77 of Kennedy in 3rd, the 29 of Reps in 4th, the 28jr of Born in 5th, and the 88B of Boland in 6th.

Heat race winners included the  78J and the 7C in the Pee Wee class, the 43 and the K34 in the Junior class, and the 28jr in the Senior class.
