Schools Buses & School Mascots Take Over “The Creek” This Week

Spring Valley, MN By: Todd Narveson: The Deer Creek Speedway will host the 6th Annual School Bus race and Mascot night at the speedway this Saturday, June 18. Grand Meadow, Kingsland, Goodhue and Blooming Prairie schools will battle it out on the speedway racing school buses for all the glory and bragging rights. This show always provides some wild and crazy action and is something you do not want to miss.

The Kingsland Knights with Mike Hyland steering the bus are the two-time defending champions of this event. The Blooming Prairie Blossoms won the show in 2013 with Doug Miner behind the wheel. But everyone will wonder if the crowd favorite Grand Meadow Superlarks will finally be able to pull off a win or can the Goodhue Wildcats reign supreme?

Several area school mascots will also join in the fun as they try to raise money for the schools through 50/50 ticket sales. Tickets are sold for $1.00 a piece of 6 for $5.00 and when ticket sales are halted the money will be added up and one lucky ticket holder will get half the pot and the rest is split amongst the schools. Schools will also be selling advanced tickets for this event in which each school will receive a portion of the ticket price back for each ticket they sold.

The school mascots add a lot of fun with their antics for both the young and old at this event. Mascots that are planning on being in attendance are the Grand Meadow Superlarks, Kingsland Knights, Osage Green Devils, Stewartville Tigers, Goodhue Wildcats, Leroy-Ostrander Cardinals, Riceville Wildcats and special appearance of “Bruiser” from the Austin Bruins hockey team.

Activities will get underway at 3:00 p.m. with the “stars of tomorrow” on the 1/5-mile Button Buck Speedway racing their Blake Trucking Slingshots. The Kid’s Club will kick off the mascot action with their event getting fired up at 5:00 p.m.

There will be a full program of stock car racing also with all five divisions of cars in action. That includes the NAPA Auto Care Centers USRA Modifieds, Olympic Fire Protection WISSOTA Super Stocks, Dirt Doctor Trucking USRA B-Mods, WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and KIK Graphics & Printing WISSOTA Street Stocks. Hot laps take place at 5:30 p.m. with the first green flag to wave at 6:00 p.m.

If that is not enough for you, make sure to be at the track between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. The speedway is bringing back the world famous $1.00 pop, beer and hot dog special during that time frame. That is right, get a pop, beer or a hot dog for $1.00 a piece, you can’t beat that bargain, so come hungry.
