Brauers wins in the seniors, Boland and Kennedy back on top againCole Queensland
The Blake Trucking Slingshot races at Deercreek Speedway on June 25, 2016 were fast and furious with stormy weather on the horizon. The track was a one groove slippery surface from the wind and heat making these slingshot races even more challenging.
The pee wee class had 6 cars this week with the k34 of Kolton Brauer on pole, the 43 of Koby Wagner on the outside. The 8T of Toby Kennedy 2nd row inside in 3rd next to the 247 of Anthony Ihlenfeld on the outside in 4th. The 411 of Gavin Oldefendt started 3rd row inside with the 7C of Curtis Parmenter outside 3rd row in 6th. The k34 of Brauer was looking strong on the start with Kennedy and Wagner battling for 2nd. The 8T of Kennedy was able to get around the k34 of Brauer and contact between Wagner and Brauer in turn 4 caused the only caution. Kennedy pulled away for the lead on the restart all the way to the checkered for the win with Wagner finishing in 2nd. The 411 of Oldefendt moved up the pack to finish in 3rd place. The 247 of Ihlenfeld tried to hang onto 4th place, but the k34 of Brauer was able to move himself back up from the back to get around the 247 just before the checkered flag to clench 4th place followed by the 247 of Ihlenfeld in 5th and the 7C of Parmenter in 6th.
A small turnout for the junior class this week made this 12 lap feature race a fast one. The 88B of Brady Boland started on pole this week, alongside the 20 of Gage Motl on the outside. 2nd row inside was the 12 of Aiden Howard with the 28jr of Devin Born on the outside. Motl and Boland battled for 1st place for the first few laps until Boland was able to stretch out to a comfortable lead over Motl in 2nd. The 28jr of Born was working hard to catch the 12 of Howard, who was putting the pressure on Motl with every turn. Motl was able to hold on to his position and finish in 2nd place this week ahead of the 12 of Howard followed by the 28jr of Born. Boland took the checkered flag for the 3rd time this season in the junior class.
The senior class had 8 cars this week for their 18 lap feature race. It was the 4W of Tucker Williams on pole this week with the 34jr of Braden Brauer on the outside. The 25 of Joe Chisholm started 2nd row inside alongside the 44 of Karlie Wagner who started in 4th. The 77 of Hunter Kennedy 3rd row inside with the 18R of Evan Reyna on the outside in 6th. The 50 of Gavin Tarras started in 7th and the 34 of Triton Krause starting in 8th. Not only was there a battle up front between Brauer and Williams for 1st, but there was a 3-way battle for 6th between Tarras, Kennedy, and Krause in the back. Brauer pulled out ahead of Williams to take over 1st place, and it was the 77 of Kennedy who won the battle for 6th place in the backfield. Williams and Chisholm continued to put the pressure on Brauer until a caution in turn 4 slowed things down with a restart. A single file restart was exactly what the 34 of Krause needed to move himself up into 6th place ahead of Kennedy and Tarras. The 18R of Reyna was trying hard to get around the 44 of Wagner for 4th. With 2 laps to go, Brauer continued to hang onto his lead as he crossed the checkered flag for his first senior class feature win of the 2016 season. The 4W of Williams finished in 2nd followed by the 25 of Chisholm in 3rd. The 44 of Wagner held onto her 4th place spot ahead of the 18R of Reyna in 5th.
