Brauer brothers victorious, Kennedy brothers hang onto strong second place finishes!
Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, MN once again brought the heat with the KC Lawn Care Slingshot races on Saturday, May 23, 2015. It was all about the Brauer brothers from Eyota, MN of Braden Brauer, the 34jr car in the junior division and his brother Kolton Brauer, the K34 car in the pee wee division this week. Another beautiful day made track conditions fast for the heat races, but in the feature races, a dry and dusty track became an issue causing several cautions in the feature races putting the kids driving abilities to the test.
Kolton Brauer, the K34 car started out the 10 lap pee wee feature race on pole where he led the pack for the majority of the race. Toby Kennedy in the 8T car stayed hot on his tail throughout the race. A total of 7 cautions in the pee wee feature brought on several position changes including the first place position who belonged to the 8T car of Toby Kennedy for a brief time. With only 3 laps to go, Kolton Brauer found an opening and regained the lead on turn two to finish out the race in first place. Toby Kennedy brought home the second place finish. More excitement continued for the 3rd and 4th place positions between the 411 of Gavin Oldefendt and the 43 car of Coby Wagner. This week, the 3rd place position belonged to the 43 car of Coby Wagner with the 411 car of Gavin Oldefendt wrapping up the 4th place position.
In the junior division, it was a four way battle for the top spot between the 34jr car of Braden Brauer, the 24 car of Joe Chisholm, the 75 car of Cole Sukow, and the 20 car of Gage Motl to start out the 12 lap feature race. Yet again, numerous cautions allowed for positions changes for the first 7 laps of the feature with your leaders including the 24 car of Joe Chisholm, the 75 car of Cole Sukow, and the 34jr car of Braden Brauer in the first 7 laps. The battle in the back didn’t let up between the 7 car of Jacob Peterson, the 12 car of Ayden Howard, the 77 car of Hunter Kennedy, and the 50 car of Gavin Tarras who joined the junior division this week after taking the checkered flag in the pee wee feature 2 weeks prior. The 77 car of Hunter Kennedy and the 50 car of Gavin Tarras slowly moved themselves into the top 4. With only 5 laps left, a spinout in turn 2 by the lead car of Joe Chisholm gave the 34jr car of Braden Bauer the opening he needed to clutch the lead all the way to the checkered flag. Hunter Kennedy captured the 2nd place finish with the 50 car of Gavin Tarras making it into the top three with a third place finish. The 75 car of Cole Sukow finished strong in 4th place with a battle for 5th between the 12 car of Ayden Howard and the 20 car of Gage Motl. The 20 car got loose in turn four with 2 laps to go allowing the 12 car of Ayden Howard to hang onto the 5th place spot. The 7 car of Jacob Peterson was able to get around Motl as well giving Peterson the 6th place finish and Motl the 7th spot. The 24 car of Joe Chisholm brought in the 8th place position. The 3C car of Cameron McCarrick ran both heats but had a DNS in the feature. This class will certainly bring excitement this season!
The 44 car of Karlie Wagner was the pole sitter in the senior feature race with the 4 car of Tucker Williams right beside her. Wagner in the 44 car started out strong, but spun out in the turn two allowing Tucker Williams in the 4 to slide in the pole position for the restart. Turn 2 wasn’t any nicer to Tucker as he spun out on the restart colliding with the 18R car of Evan Reyna who was in the 4th place position before the caution. The 53 car of Tianna Mithun nearly missed colliding with the 4 car to move into second. The 44 car of Karlie Wagner and the 60 car of Colby Mann were able to avoid the collision as well. The 24 car of Jim Chisholm lead the restart with the 53 car of Mithun on the outside ready to challenge him again this week. The cars spread themselves out with the 24 car of Jim Chisholm continuing to lead the race, followed by the 53 car, the 60 car, the 44 car, 4 car, and the 18R car of Reyna. As the 24 car of Jim Chisholm continued stretched out his lead and take the checkered flag, the 4 car of Tucker Williams found his opening in turn 4 to get around the 44 car of Karlie Wagner to grab the 3th place position. The 53 car of Tianna Mithun stayed steady to finish in 2nd place for the final few laps of the race. The 60 car of Colby Mann moved to the back after spinning out in turn 2, but battled his way back with 2 laps to go to finish in 5th place inches behind Wagner in the 44 car who held onto the 4th place spot. The 18R car of Evan Reyna gave it all he had, but couldn’t catch the pack finishing in 6th place.

Chisholm and Shyrock put on a good race finish with Chisholm inching out the win. Davis pulled out the third place finish after Mithun got loose in turn two and finished fourth.
